Welcome to Alfie's story - A special place for friends and family to visit, a place to share his story and progress and a place to remember his life.

Alfie has a rare genetic disorder, Mitochondrial Complex lll Deficiency of the Respiratory Chain. He was diagnosed in January 2008. The disease is progressive and there is no cure. It can present itself in many different ways. Alfie suffers with muscle weakness and pain, respiratory difficulties, development delays and susceptibility to infection. Other symptoms include cardiac disease, diabetes, liver disease, seizures, lactic acidosis, and more.

In setting up this website we hope to raise awareness of mitochondrial disease. In addition, we hope to raise money for Alfie's equipment and care needs. Alfie will need care and support throughout his life and through this fund we hope to make his short life as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Money raised will be divided between a fund for Alfie's care needs and research into Mitochondrial disease.
